Enter your cover dimensions

All dimensions in cm. Measure along the dashed lines in the diagram – height (1), top circumference (2) and bottom circumference (3).

How to measure Design 22 (truncated cone)

  1. Height (1) – from the ground to the highest point.
  2. Top circumference (2) – measure all the way around the narrow/top edge.
  3. Bottom circumference (3) – measure all the way around the widest/base edge.

Tip: use a soft tape and measure at the widest points. We add a small tailoring allowance so the cover slides on and off easily without being baggy.

Looking for a neat, weatherproof way to cover something that isn’t a simple box? Our Custom Truncated Cone Outdoor Cover is made to your exact measurements, so you can protect awkward cone-shaped items like fire pits, chimineas, smokers, planters and decorative features without a baggy, oversized cover.

Made to measure from three simple sizes

Instead of guessing, you’ll enter the height, top circumference and bottom circumference from our sizing diagram. We’ll cut and sew your cover as a tapered cone so it follows the shape of your item and sits neatly all the way around.

  • 1. Height: from the ground to the highest point.
  • 2. Top circumference: all the way around the narrow/top edge.
  • 3. Bottom circumference: all the way around the widest/base edge.

We add a small tailoring allowance so the cover slides on and off easily without being overly loose.

Two outdoor-grade fabric tiers

Choose the fabric that best matches how and where your cover will be used:

  • Tier 1 – Standard PVL 600D: heavy-duty polyester with a vinyl coating. A great all-round option for typical UK gardens where the cover is used spring to autumn or in more sheltered spots.
  • Tier 2 – Premium P500UV: upgraded polyester with PU + UV coating for maximum waterproofing and fade resistance. Ideal for exposed, south-facing patios, coastal areas or year-round use.

Both tiers are designed for regular outdoor use and are easy to wipe clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water.

Secure tie-downs to keep the cover in place

Truncated cone covers can catch the wind if they aren’t anchored well, so we offer several sewn-in tie-down options:

  • No tie-downs: best if your item is heavy and sheltered.
  • Elasticated hem with cord lock: cinches around the base for a snug, all-round grip.
  • Grommets & cord: metal eyelets around the hem with cord to tie to legs, rings or ground anchors.
  • Webbing straps with buckles: strap under key points for maximum security in exposed locations.

Every option is sewn to order, so you can match the fixing style to your garden and wind exposure.

Colour options to match the rest of your covers

Your truncated cone cover is available in a choice of classic outdoor colours such as black, dark grey and forest green. Black is usually held in stock for the fastest turnaround, while other colours are made to order.

Typical uses for a truncated cone cover

This shape works well for:

  • Small fire pits and chimineas with a tapered body
  • Topiary frames or cone-shaped garden features
  • Freestanding heaters and burners with a narrow top
  • Decorative planters, urns and plinths
  • Specialist equipment or machinery with a sloping profile

How our made-to-measure process works

  1. Measure your item following the “diagram” image on this page – use a soft tape and measure at the widest points.
  2. Enter your height, top circumference and bottom circumference in centimetres.
  3. Choose your fabric tier, colour and preferred tie-down option.
  4. Optionally upload a photo and add notes if your item has any unusual details.
  5. We cut and sew your cover to size, then dispatch it once it has passed our quality checks.

How the tie-down options work

Choose the tie-down style that best suits your garden and wind exposure. All options are sewn to order on your cover.

  • No tie-downs – simple drop-over cover, ideal for sheltered patios.
  • Elasticated hem + cord lock – shock cord sewn into the base with a toggle to cinch tight.
  • Grommets + cord – reinforced metal eyelets around the base with cord to tie to legs or anchors.
  • Straps & buckles – webbing straps run under key points of the base.

You can see close-up photos of each option above in the product gallery.

Frequently asked questions

What is Design 22 best for?

Design 22 is ideal for tapered or truncated cone shapes such as fire pits, chimineas, cone planters and decorative garden features. The pattern follows the slope while keeping a neat fit at the top and base.

Are the fabrics fully waterproof?

Both fabric tiers are designed for outdoor use. Tier 1 (PVL 600D) is waterproof for everyday garden use, while Tier 2 (P500UV) adds an extra PU and UV coating for maximum water resistance and long-term exposure.

What if my measurements are slightly wrong?

We add a small tailoring allowance to help the cover slip on easily. If you realise you’ve measured incorrectly, contact us as soon as possible with your order number – if production hasn’t started, we can usually update the sizes.

Can you add vents, flaps or zips?

In many cases we can add vents, inspection flaps or zips. Upload a clear photo and describe what you need in the notes – we’ll confirm what’s possible and whether there is any extra cost before we sew your cover.

How do I clean the cover?

Brush off loose dirt regularly, then sponge clean with mild soapy water and rinse. Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing, as these can damage the waterproof coatings over time. Always allow the cover to dry fully before storing.
